YBBG Stage Style with Eric Roberson and Algebra Blessett

I had an opportunity to interview two amazing singers last week. Eric Roberson is a Grammy nominated singer-songwriter from Rahway, New Jersey. He's about to release his tenth independent album on August 12, 2014. I had the opportunity to hear a few songs and I must say I like it.

I chatted with Eric about his style...and according to him, he gets his singing from his dad, but his style from his mama. His mom is a stylist.

Algebra Blessett is a "natural girl" she has natural hair, and naturally appears great in anything she wears. She designs a lot of her stage wear and wears what she feels most comfortable in. Blessett said she catches a lot of flack for her style, but she has range. In her video "Nobody But You" she changes from glam girl to natural free spirit, and everything in between.

Let's get to the good stuff...

HAIR

ERIC: Eric has a retro cut that he says is very reminiscent of the style worn by his dad back in the day. It is retro in many ways. A throwback to the 50s-60s era and to the 80s-90s. There's a deep part on the left side and it slopes up to a "gumby" on the right.

ALGEBRA: Algebra has natural hair. She wears it straight by pressing it sometimes and at other times she wears it out and fro-free. Currently she's wearing braids that hang past her shoulders. They were fashioned into a top-bun updo for the show.

THE 'FITS

ERIC: Eric wore a vibrant colored blazer that lit up the stage and fitted slacks that were tailored for his frame. I loved this jacket. His socks hit the right notes to set off the jacket. I also liked the look he wore for the interview. He donned a khaki colored jacket, jeans, a camouflaged tie and eye-catching eye-wear.

ALGEBRA: Algebra took the stage in a hand stitched crop top with flower details and a high waist-ed black and white skirt that had a flare for the dramatic. The ensemble bore just a slight hint of skin in the midriff area and the skirt cascaded toward the floor without touching it.

THE DETAILS

ERIC: Eric accented his ensemble with a plaid tie with Windsor knot and a paisley pocket square, both with blue accents. His floral lapel pin that matches his jacket adds a monochromatic touch. Floral lapel pins are pretty hot right now. He throws a little old school flair in with the gold tie clip. I would say Eric's ensemble is all about the little touches and details  details details.

ALGEBRA: Algebra sets her black and white outfit off with floral accents. There are floral decorative accents on the crop top and what reminds me of Japanese cherry blossoms on the skirt. The skirt also has pick-ups or bustling in the front to give a little leg action. Peeking from underneath the skirt are sparkly green shoes with a platform and lace up detail in the front. She also adds silver jewelry in a  bracelet and her butterfly ring.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THESE STAGE STYLES?
