Typically I'm not big on fur anything. Then the other night, I saw this lady sashay through the crosswalk in this ankle length slim fit black mink. She killed the cold with that coat! So I said...wait a minute...I might be able to stunt a little in some fur... My friends and I used to always joke about how if we ever wore fur, we would be like Mary J Blige and dare PETA to even breathe in our directions...let alone throw something.

But with this faux fur...PETA is safe... LOL

So yesterday, I was with my parents and my mom wanted to hit up Goodwill. The first one we went to was quite dusty (literally) and we flew out of there.

I'm really not huge on thrifting because it still kinda makes me squeamish LOL. I will budget shop with the best of 'em, but something about wearing other people's clothing (vintage or not) bugs me. I'm working through it though.

Which brings me to the faux fur... We hit up a second Goodwill. I usually look at blazers, paintings or other little knick knacks when I do make it into a thrift store. This time I picked up a wooden cubby thing to organize my mail and as I was standing around waiting for my mom, I noticed something poking out from behind some tees.

I had just asked my mom about how color coordinated this Goodwill was earlier. So when I saw the dark brown mixed in with black tees, I thought it odd...so I poked my hand in and pulled out this jacket!

It had no price tag or anything, so we figured that someone had hidden it away to go back for it later. I slipped it on and I will be darned! I could wear it! Ha!

For a steal of $7.99, I got this great, very warm, faux fur coat. Unfortunately...for me wearing the coat...it is getting warmer in NC...so after I get it back from the cleaners, this bad girl is going into my closet until next winter season.

Have you had any great thrift shopping grabs lately? Or are you squeamish like me when it comes to thrifting?

  1. When I live in NJ, the city of Flemington was known as the fur capital of the country. So many fur jackets could be found even while thrifting, You my friend have found a great buy.

    1. Thanks Kimberly. I am opening up more to the idea of thrifting... I have found some really great jackets at Goodwill specifically. I think I'll start perusing some of the other little jobs and consignment shops in my area.

  5. I am totally not squeamish when it comes to thrifting. I've found some great pieces that were still brand new with tags while shopping second hand. There are some great finds if you're willing to look and give thrifting a chance.
